Irrigation Water

The irrigation water will be off Tuesday, June 29 from 3pm to 6pm for a repair.
This shouldn’t affect too many as watering in the heat of the afternoon is not recommended,
Please see information on watering lawns as put out by Colorado state extension office.

Irrigation Water Update

We’ve had some complaints of lower pressure for irrigation water recently and debris in the water.

Sam and I did some work related to the irrigation system yesterday.  We attempted to have the hydro vac company do some cleaning out but did not find the necessary hookups where we anticipated them.   We did do some filter cleaning at one location and it seemed to greatly improve their system.

We also opened up the bottom valve for about 2 hours yesterday with the main valve still open as recommended by the hydro vac company to help flush debris and sediment out of the system.  The water appeared significantly clearer (but not clear) after that.   I also noticed a 4 psi gain in pressure afterwards at my house.  Opening the lower valve does lower water pressure throughout the system for those several hours.   We chose the middle of the day during the higher heat to do this as that is the most ineffective time to water.  Watering is most effective in the early morning and late evenings.  We will continue to do this once a month.

Some have asked why we cannot put a filter or series of filters above the main valve.  I have been told that such a system would be impossible to keep clean and would hinder rather than help.

I have been told we will be under water restrictions for city water we get from Ute water sooner than later.  Please keep your own system running efficiently – filters clean, your sprinkler heads properly aimed and a reasonable watering schedule (Length of time and in the cooler parts of the day).
